Community Guidelines

Last updated on August 13, 2026

Welcome to Rivet! We care about you and want you to date and connect safely. That's what these Community Guidelines are for—to set expectations for everyone's behavior, both on and off the app. They're here to make sure everyone feels respected, safe, and ready to find that special connection. So read on!

Profile & Identity

  • Be real. Always use real, recent photos of yourself. We want you to show your authentic self, so include at least one clear photo of your full face without heavy filters or effects. No memes or text-only images, let people really see who they're talking to.
We conduct live-photo verification for everyone and compare it to your uploaded photos using facial recognition technology; any photos that do not match the live-photo will be disallowed.
  • Be you. Be honest. People want to meet the real you. Use your genuine name or nickname. Be honest about sharing basic information, including your age, gender, location, etc. Don't pretend to be someone else or lie about yourself—catfishing or false details are not allowed on Rivet.
  • Adults only. Rivet is strictly for adults, so you need to be 18 years old or over. We reserve the right to ask for your ID to verify your age, and if you're under 18, you'll be blocked from the app. Please come back when you're older.
  • No Minors. Any mention of minors here is off-limits. This includes pictures, stories, or anything else. Keep it strictly adult. Do not post pictures of children or minors.
  • One account per person. Don't create duplicate profiles. Stick to one honest account to keep things fair for everyone.
  • Images. We generate one cover image for the profile using user submitted headshots as a base. All the other pictures in a user's profile are as submitted by the users. We strongly encourage real pictures of you to get a sense of the authentic person you are, without modification with filters or artificial intelligence based tooling.
  • Do not use any words or phrases that violate our Community Guidelines.

Consent & Boundaries

  • Ask before you act. Consent is everything—it must be clearly and freely communicated. Always make sure the other person is comfortable before sharing anything intimate or personal. If you wouldn't want it done to you, don't do it to someone else.
  • Respect when someone says "no". If someone says "no," "I'm not interested," or just stops replying, respect their decision. They aren't obligated to answer or agree to anything. If someone unmatches you or stops chatting with you, don't chase them on other apps or keep messaging. Just let it go.
  • No pressure. Don't push anyone into a date, a conversation, or a photo they're not comfortable sharing. Everyone has different comfort levels, respect it. If you sense someone is feeling uneasy, back off and apologize. Good friendships (and dates!) start with respect.

Respectful Communication

  • Be kind. Treat others how you'd like to be treated. Name-calling, insults, or rude comments are not okay. Even in jest, hurtful language can hurt someone's feelings. Lead with kindness.

  • No hate or harassment. Rivet is for everyone, and we celebrate inclusivity and diversity. We do not stand for hate of any kind. Attacking someone for their race, religion, gender, orientation, disability, or anything else about who they are is a big no-no. If you don't vibe with someone, it's fine to skip on matching with them but never attack or harass.

  • No sexual harassment. Don't send unsolicited sexual images, GIFs, or comments. Cyber-flashing (sending explicit pictures out of the blue) and pressuring someone with sexual talk or jokes are banned. Everything sexual on Rivet should be mutual and consensual. Learn more about sexual harassment

  • Keep it appropriate. Avoid vile or extremely offensive language. Respect people's privacy: don't share someone else's private messages or profile info outside the app without permission. Trust goes both ways.

We don't allow content or behavior that makes any individual or group feel harassed, bullied, or targeted. This includes belittling, insulting, or intimidating behavior; making unsolicited comments about someone's appearance; engaging in emotional abuse; blackmail; or wishing, encouraging, or praising acts of violence. Learn more about bullying and abusive content

Off-Platform Behavior

  • Be Respectful. Treat people you meet on Rivet with the same respect and kindness as if you met them offline. Whether it's a date or chatting on another app, follow these same guidelines. Your behavior outside the app matters to us.
  • IRL Safety. Meet in public, tell a friend about your plans, and have a backup way home. If anything feels off, trust your gut. Your safety comes first.
  • Report Issues. If something bad happens after you meet someone (harassment, assault, etc.), report it. We treat harmful offline behavior seriously. We want you to be safe on and off Rivet.

Social Matching

  • Rivet is a trusted community. Everyone here is not just forging new connections for themselves, they are playing a critical role in shaping connections for their community and everyone on the platform. This is a great responsibility. When we ask you if you think a pair is well-suited to each other, please give your honest opinion each time. Thoughtfulness and mutual respect will help us build a wonderful experience for everyone.
  • We believe collective human intuition is magical and your contribution to the community is invaluable, just like your community is working to surface the best recommendations for you. Please do not spam and match people thoughtlessly. Please do not send malicious reports or try to contact someone without their approval. We strongly discourage any attempts to game the system and will ban users for abuse.

Prohibited Content

  • No Nudity or Porn: Please, no explicit sexual images or pornographic content on your profile or in messages. It will be moderated away. This app is about connecting, not adult content. Learn more about adult content and sexual activity
  • No Sexual Solicitation: Don't offer or request sexual services, escorts, or paid dates. Trading sex for money or goods is not allowed.
  • No Illegal Activity: Don't use Rivet to buy or sell illegal drugs, weapons, or to plan any crimes. Any promotion of illegal activities is strictly forbidden. Learn more about illegal substances
  • No Child Exploitation: We have zero tolerance for anything involving minors. Any sexual content with someone under 18, or anyone under 18 using the app, will be removed immediately. Remember: Rivet is for adults only. Learn more about child safety
  • No Violence: Keep your profile and messages free from graphic violence, self-harm images, or anything extremely disturbing. Let's keep the atmosphere safe and positive. Learn more about violent and graphic content

Scams, Spam & Financial Solicitation

  • No Scams or Fraud: You're here to make real connections, not to trick people out of money. Don't ask people for financial help, gifts, or investments. Seeking financial support or faking romantic intentions are classified as scams, and anyone caught scamming will be banned.
  • No Unwanted Promotion: This isn't a marketplace. Don't send people affiliate links, advertising messages, or invites to multi-level marketing schemes. If we see you using Rivet to sell or promote something, we'll remove that content and take action against your account. Learn more about commercial and promotional activities
  • No Spam or Bots: Don't send the same message to lots of people or use automated tools. Creating multiple accounts to spam others is not allowed. Keep it genuine and one-on-one.

Rivet Live

Rivet Live is a live, host-moderated experience where members of the Rivet community can watch, chat, vote and, if selected, participate on camera. Everything in these Community Guidelines continues to apply when you use Rivet Live, whether you are watching, chatting, voting or participating in the live video.

Because Rivet Live happens in real time and in front of other users, please keep the following additional rules in mind:

  • Only you on camera. If you are selected to participate in the live video, only you—the verified Rivet account holder—may participate through your camera and microphone. Do not bring another person into the live video, intentionally show another person in your camera feed, permit anyone else to participate through your account, hand your device or live session to another person, or stream, replay, or display someone else's video or content as though it were your own. Minors must never appear in a Rivet Live video or participate in a Rivet Live session.
  • Keep your live video appropriate. No nudity, sexually explicit conduct, graphic violence, weapons, illegal drugs, or other prohibited content may appear or be heard in your live video, including in your background. Do not participate in the live video while intoxicated or materially impaired. You are responsible for what can be seen and heard through your camera and microphone, so please check your surroundings before joining.
  • Keep third-party content out of your feed. Do not intentionally play, display, stream, or broadcast music, television, movies, videos, photographs, or other third-party content through Rivet Live unless you have the right to use it. This includes content playing in the background of your camera or microphone feed.
  • Protect your private information. Getting to know each other is part of Rivet Live, but remember that you are participating in a live environment. Do not share or ask another person to share phone numbers or personal email addresses; home or precise real-time addresses or locations; financial or payment information; government identification numbers; passwords or account credentials; or other information that could create a safety, security, or fraud risk. Do not pressure anyone to reveal sensitive or deeply personal information that they do not want to discuss publicly.
  • No advertising or solicitation. Rivet Live is for genuine community interaction—not advertising or solicitation. Do not use the live video or chat to advertise, sell, or promote products or services, solicit money, recruit users for another platform, or direct members to commercial or promotional activity outside Rivet unless Rivet has expressly authorized it.
  • Be respectful—to people in the live and in the chat. Rivet Live is meant to be fun, but the people participating are real members of the Rivet community. Do not harass, threaten, intimidate, or bully another user; make hateful or discriminatory comments; sexually harass another user; deliberately humiliate or degrade someone; organize or encourage a pile-on against a participant; repeatedly mock someone's appearance, voice, identity, or personal characteristics; or encourage other viewers to target or harass a particular person. Humour and disagreement are allowed. Harassment and targeted humiliation are not.
  • Respect boundaries in the live. Do not pressure another live participant to answer a question, discuss a topic, disclose personal information, or engage in conduct that makes them uncomfortable. If another participant does not want to answer something, move on. Sexual comments, questions, or jokes must comply with our rules on consent, harassment, and appropriate conduct.
  • Vote genuinely and respectfully. Rivet Live may ask viewers for their opinion about whether two live participants appear well-suited as a potential match. If you choose to vote, vote based on your genuine view of the potential match; do not coordinate votes with other users; do not spam or manipulate voting; do not encourage discriminatory or retaliatory voting; and do not use voting as a way to harass, punish, or humiliate another member. Community voting is about whether two people may be a good match—it is not an invitation to rate or rank an individual person's attractiveness, worth, or desirability.
  • Don't record or repost Rivet Live. Unless Rivet expressly allows it, do not screen-record, screenshot, photograph, download, rebroadcast, or otherwise record a Rivet Live session. Do not repost clips or content from Rivet Live to another platform, create reaction or derivative content from a Rivet Live session, or share another user's Rivet Live appearance outside Rivet. Rivet may record and use Rivet Live content as described in the Rivet Live Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, but that does not give users permission to record or redistribute other members' content.
  • Follow Host and moderator directions. The Host and Rivet's moderators may manage the live session to keep it safe, respectful, and running smoothly. They may mute or remove participants, remove chat messages, decline or end live participation, restrict access to chat or voting, or remove users from a Rivet Live session where appropriate. Rivet retains ultimate moderation authority and may restrict or remove your access to Rivet Live—or take action against your Rivet account—for violations of these Guidelines, the Rivet Live Terms of Use, or our Terms of Use.

Reporting & Moderation

  • Use the Report Button: If someone breaks these rules or makes you feel unsafe, please report them. Reporting is anonymous and instant - once you report, neither of you will see each other's profiles again
  • Reporting during Rivet Live: Rivet Live may be actively monitored by Rivet moderators while a session is running. If you see something that violates these Guidelines, you may use any reporting or support tools made available in Rivet or contact our support team. Our moderators do not need to wait for a report before acting. They may remove content, restrict participation, or remove a user from a Live session when they identify conduct that violates our rules or creates a safety concern.
  • Block & Unmatch: You can also unmatch or block anyone who crosses the line. You don't have to keep talking to people who bother you. During a Rivet Live session, the Host or moderators can also mute or remove a participant on your behalf.
  • We're on it: We use a combination of trained team members and technology to help moderate Rivet, review reports, and identify potential violations of our rules. For Rivet Live sessions, we may also use active human moderation while the session is taking place. When we get a report, our team reviews it and decides the next steps. If someone's in the wrong, we might remove their content, issue a warning, or even ban their account
  • No Abuse of Reporting: Please report only real issues. Filing false or vindictive reports (targeting someone unfairly) is against our rules. Don't misuse the system.
  • Law Enforcement: In serious cases (threats, violence, trafficking, etc.), we will cooperate with law enforcement if needed.

We're here to help you. If you think we made a mistake in moderating or banning someone, you can contact our support team. We take your safety seriously and want to do right by our community.

You're Good To Go If…

  • You use real, honest photos and information (and you're 18+).
  • You're polite, friendly, and respectful in all your messages.
  • You always get consent before any intimate or sensitive conversation.
  • You keep your chats appropriate (no unsolicited explicit content).
  • You don't post hateful, harassing, or illegal content.
  • You don't spam people or try to scam them.
  • You respect others' boundaries (when they say "no," you say "OK").
  • You report truly bad behavior—not just people you personally dislike.
  • You're on Rivet for genuine connections, not to mislead or hurt anyone.
  • In Rivet Live, you keep your camera to yourself, vote genuinely, and don't record or repost the session.

If all that sounds like you, you're all set! Enjoy Rivet, meet amazing people, and remember - we've got your back for a safe, awesome experience. Happy Social Matching!
