Selfie Verification
Last updated on January 05, 2026
“Selfie Verification” is a quick video-based verification that confirms you're a real person. During this process, you'll record a short video selfie following simple on-screen prompts. This helps us keep our community safe and authentic.
Why do I need to complete Selfie Verification?
Selfie Verification is required for all users on our platform. It helps us verify that you're a genuine person and not a bot or fake account, creating a safer, more trustworthy environment for everyone. If you do not wish to undertake Selfie Verification, please do not use Rivet.
How does Selfie Verification work?
The process is simple and takes less than a minute:
- When prompted, you'll open your camera and record a brief video selfie
- Our system analyzes this selfie to confirm you're a real person
- Once verified, you can continue using the platform
What data is collected from me during this process?
We do not retain your live video, underlying biometric data or facial geometry upon completion of the verification. We may retain up to 4 screenshots (“Reference Images”) from your live video.
The Reference Images from your live video are never posted to your public profile or displayed anywhere on the platform.
How is my data used?
Your collected data may be used for the following purposes:
- Verify that you're a real person (not a bot or fake account)
- Power our trust and safety monitoring tools, including verifying your identity in uploaded photos with the Reference Images to ensure that you are using your own pictures in your profile
- Prevent fraud and abuse on the platform
- Develop better trust and safety tools
Will my data be shared with third parties?
We use trusted third-party providers, Yoti (Yoti Privacy Policy) and AWS Rekognition (AWS Rekognition Privacy Policy), to facilitate the selfie verification process.
All data shared with third parties is processed in real-time and deleted immediately after processing, typically within minutes and no longer than 24 hours. Our third-party providers do not store or retain any data from your verification process.
While biometric data is never shared, the Reference Images captured during selfie verification may be shared with trusted third-party service providers. These screenshots are used exclusively to:
- Perform facial matching to verify your identity
- Power trust and safety features that protect our community
- Improve your matchmaking experience through enhanced verification systems
Every third-party provider with whom we share your data is contractually obligated to maintain the same or higher level of data protection as outlined in our Privacy Policy. Specifically, our agreements require these providers to:
- Use your data solely for providing services to us
- Implement appropriate security measures to protect your information
- Not use your data for their own business purposes, marketing, or product development
- Delete your data in accordance with our retention requirements
- Comply with all applicable data protection laws and regulations
Where is my data stored?
We do not store any facial biometric data or facial geometry information. We may store up to four (4) screenshots (“Reference Images”) captured during your selfie verification on secure cloud servers hosted by Google Cloud Platform (GCP). These screenshots are stored using industry-standard security protocols. To learn more about Google Cloud Platform's security and privacy practices, you may visit Google Cloud Privacy Policy (Google Cloud Privacy Policy).
Your Reference Images are stored in accordance with our Data Retention Policy as outlined in Section 1.2.1. of our Privacy Policy.
